10 Strange Football Mods

Football (somewhere it’s called soccer) is the most popular sport on the planet. Modern football’s history began from mid-19th century in England, and the rules have evolved since then. Below is a list of derived games from football, which rules probably will not be included in the official rules, but are nonetheless very interesting to watch. I bet you have not heard/seen most of them. Some of them have been developed further to official games with leagues and rules, while others are just for fun. Enjoy! -Quang-
Chinlone (Mystic Ball)
Featured here @ haha.nu, this beautiful sport from Burma (Myanmar) is a combination of teamwork, dance and meditation. Read more here, also check the Mystic Ball movie.
Bossaball
Bossaball mixes volleyball, football, gymnastics and capoeira on inflatables and trampolines. I would add also Bossa Nova, beaches and sunshine.
Jorkyball
Jorkyball is a modified form of 2 on 2 soccer taking influence from squash. It is played in a 10m x 5m cage on artificial turf with the possibility of using the walls to place the ball.
Fireball
Known in some part of Asia (Indonesia, Thailand…), the ball is made of coconut fibre, soaked in diesel and set alight. Spectacular at night, but might be dangerous also. Please, don’t do that at home.
Ice Soccer
ICE SOCCER™, offered by Taylor Sports, L.L.C., is a totally new team sport designed for competitive play on indoor ice hockey arenas (or outdoor ice surfaces of comparable size). It is a perfect sport for growth from middle and high-school play to college intramural competition and, ultimately, into franchised, professional league play.

Vertical football
Part of the Adidas campaign’s “Impossible is Nothing”, this billboard is installed in Tokyo, Japan (no surprise) and surely is successful with its task: to catch more attentions.
Binocular football
Talking about Japaneses and their crazy ideas, here is the one: to play football with binoculars.
Human Table Football
Football, brought to table (a.k.a. Foosball), then brought back to real life. Pure fun guaranteed.
Bikeball
Students from Tokyo Tech demonstrating amazing skills with bicycles. And ball.
Underwater football
This probably is the most difficult mod of the game. But also, serious injuries are not likely to happen.
Bonus: Shaolin Soccer
While fictious and exists only in the 2001 movie by Stephen Chow, it is interesting (and funny) to see the combination of Shaolin Kung Fu and the modern game. Below are some highlights of the movie.
