Having Online Videos Offlinely

Want to download your favorite online videos, available from various video websites like YouTube, Google Video, Metacafe… to your desktop, iPod, PSP or cellphone? Don’t know where to download the FLV file, then which converter to use for the appropriate format (AVI DIVX for PC; MOV for Mac; MP4 for iPod; PSP)? Or just too lazy (busy) to learn how? These sites will let you do all the tasks, without a single tool installed, using your browser only.

Vixy

  • Input: YouTube, FLV URL.
  • Output: AVI (DivX); MOV (MAC); MP4 (PSP, iPod); 3GP (phone devices); MP3 (audio).
  • Review: Very straigthforward. Paste the video’s url, choose the output format, wait a little bit and it will display you the result as a link to download.

FLVIX

  • Input: YouTube, Google Video, FLV URL.
  • Output: AVI (DivX); MOV (MAC); MP4 (PSP, iPod); 3GP (phone devices); MP3 (audio).
  • Review: Seems to be a Vixy clone, with support of Google Video.

Zamzar

  • Input: All major video sites (YouTube, Google Video, Metacafe, Dailymotion…). Also allow uploading your own files as source input.
  • Output: Many lossy and lossless video/audio formats.
  • Review: The mother of all online converter services (and not only for video, but also image and document formats). Supports batch (multiple files) conversion also. One drawback: you have to give e-mail address to receive the download links of the results.

Movavi

  • Input: All major video sites (YouTube, Google Video, Metacafe, Dailymotion…). Also user uploaded files.
  • Output: AVI (Xvid); MPEG2; MPEG4 (iPod, PSP); 3GP, 3GP2 (phone devices); FLV (Flash Video).
  • Review: Something in middle between the Zamzar and Vixy (FLVIX) services. Supports more online video platforms than Vixy, but not like Zamzar, it is specialized on video only as conversion formats. Requires e-mail address, and those limits (10 min videos, max 5 files batch conversion and total of 100 MB as input files) might be counted as minuses. One interesting extra feature – Movavi allows integration to many external things, like Facebook application, embedded widget to other websites or web browsers.

So, happy watching (and rewatching) online videos without being online. Try these services and let us know which one satisfies you most as quality and speed of conversion. Know other cool services? Please let us know. -Quang-
