Toothpick sculptures

Beautiful sculptures, amazingly done with … toothpicks, glue and a lot of patience by Steven Backman. The boat below for example is made with 6000 toothpicks and glue, while the Golden Gate bridge is made with more than 30000 toothpicks and took 2 1/2 years for construction. Amazing.

Handicraft can make a splendid décor especially if you are living with low income housing plans. These art pieces can add up in your flooring supplies make it look wonderful such as a carpet in corner with some hand made handicraft.

okayy. the stuff looks pretty cool i must admit, but this guy has wayy too much time on his hands. and i cant help but think that this is pretty pointless. im not really sure what you would use a fragile toothpick sculpture for T.T

ok yeah everyone can glue getre… but you try to do that. everyone can put a paint brush to paper, too, but not everyone can paint the mona lisa.
and to the people who said it’s pointless, this is amazing and beautiful. the point is art!!

Very nice. Of course there are retarded haters that cant see how difficult this really is. I mean, yes it seems easy; glue and toothpicks, but the designs and detail are spectacular. GERTRE???? Are you really that stupid to think any of these were carved from one toothpick? Do you know that a toothpick is only 2 inches long by 3 millimeters???? What waterhead would think that? How dumb can a person be to think that, and then admit their own stupidity? It is beyond me. MY GOD.

just because its difficult doesn’t mean that it was worth it or that it is “art” I should try to give birth to a camel because it’s difficult…maybe i’ll tell people it’s art.

a lot toothpicks, time and patience.. is it worthwhile to spend time on it? everybody has its own answer.

it’s a hobby. everyone should have a hobby. this guy has a very refined hobby and of course it takes time and patience…everyone in north america has too much time on their hands; averaging 4 hours of tv a day!! better to build tooth pick sculptures i say.

Very nice, it shows what someone can do when they’re dedicated. As for those that feel he is wasting his time his efforts are certainly more productive then those who use their time zombied out in front of a computer criticizing others.

I did toothpick models in middle school, nothing to this degree but found a book that showed how to bend them and make all sorts of really neat projects. I found this link because someone on Yahoo answers wanted a way to build a model of the Tower of London Bridge and I am directing him to your site. I asked him to consider it inspiration and not intimidation — your stuff is pretty intense!

    Again, nice work.

ok, so look, the haters on here say “get a life”, “…too much time on his hands.”, etc. look at it this way, maybe he doesn’t search all day on the internet to find shit to bitch pointlessly about. he spends his time creatively and productively. you morons on the other hand just wanna talk shit because you know that there’s no way in hell YOU COULD EVER do anything that intricate in your life.
    lames…
p.s. Callie, he bends them by soaking them in near boiling water for 5-10 minutes, shaping them and letting them dry. actually, not sure if he does it that exact way, but that’s the easiest way i’ve found to do it.
