This stuff is very cool specially the way he made all the curved shapes out of something like Lego must be extrenely hard to do. One thing I wonder though is if the Lego pieces are painted by the artist himself or if all these colors exist in original Lego pieces specially in the picture of the woman (different orange to yellow shades) and in the earth globe (different shades of green). At least when I was a kid there weren’t pieces in that many colors. Also I think the artist must have missed the internet phenomenon known as goatse or goatse.cx (in the 1st and 18th pictures) or he is trying to make that a joke for all of us who know what that is. Very cool anyway.

Truly amazing. And, while I would like to see more pictures of just the art, having him in there gives you a good idea of scale you might not have otherwise. You see how truly huge some of these things are.

Guys. His being there helps you see how big the piece is. I did not mind it; I don’t see why everyone is making a fuss.
Calling it ‘gay’ is so ridiculous; he obviously spent a lot of time on these, so don’t disrespect him.

Anyway, these are amazing. I have no idea how you would go about creating them. Looks really difficult…

To all the people harshly criticizing these pictures: first, try to structure your reasoning and not to become personal, then you may issue your opinion. Secondly, there is no such thing as Art, no criteria which define what is “Art”, only time can separate crap from “universal” art. What can for sure be said is that it is a great piece of craftsmanship and very creative.

As for the “oeuvres d’art”, the works, just great! Who among us hasn’t played with Lego at least once in their youth? I for my part am hoping that my child(ren) will like Lego, so I can play with them ;-) .

Where the colours are concerned, it comes actually very close to pixel art, i.e. the way icons etc. are constructed, just that it is 3D and thus even more difficult.

Cut the artist some slack! He is trying to make a living doing what he loves, so he does publicity stills, and it does provide scale to the big pieces. And of course this IS art, since several people in here THINK it is (and are even willing to pay for it apparently). My personal opinion is that a couple of these are world-class.

I have to say, you have an amazing grasp of art in this format. Your pieces remind me of early computer graphics in the very pixelated states. The forms and colors you choose have a very appealing blend of both order and disorder. To quote a famous person, “I may not know art, but I know what I like.” Well done! :-)

This is quite extraordinary. In art school, many of the most important classes are on taking unconventional materials to make works of art. I think this would certainly qualify.

What a person considers art is a purely subjective matter. Many people think Damien Hirst is a publicity stuntman with no talent, yet even the Tate Gallery and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston are eager to get their hands on his installations.

Well done, Nathan. I too have seen this posted quite a bit, but I don’t tire of it. I’d love to see another round of these masterpieces.

I think that these make to a be a fine collection of artworks, he has quite the artistic vision.

To those that say that art can’t be made of legos, phooey on you. If you don’t call this art, then what would you call ‘art’? whether it be plastic bricks (legos) or colored liquids (paint), if anyone could make something beautiful out of their own imagination and expression, that is art

i don’t see the problem with using legos as an art medium, for those cynics out there. and as far as putting himself into the pictures, i didn’t mind. why should anyone? i feel as though some of you people go from stumble to stumble looking for things to criticize rather than getting off your ass and making something worthwhile of your own.

I think, it is a very good work and it’s nice. I never thought, that one can build such things with legos. What is art? Art is, when there is one person who makes a think, what nobody else does. That’s, what this man here did – and it is good. I have a great respect to this artwork. A man, playing with toys? Why not? This man does, what everyone deep in the heard would like to do, but it is “embrassing” and so the people forget, how nice it is, to be a child. Here, this man, show us that wonderful “be a child” – and share this joy with us.

    Thank you.

I’ve got serious issues with the whole “Too much time on your hands comments” or the “this guys is playing with toys comments” first off: Art is….that is it, it just IS. It does not matter if its a picture, paint, photo or a pile of trash that when the light reflects is a cool shadow (which is cool if you can check it out). I would love for those who think this is not art to have a conversation with Jackson Pollack or John Cage(composer). and 2nd: what the hell is so important that takes up everyone elses time. If you don’t have kids or your not married, and your bills are paid, then finding useless shit to do IS the “important” thing to do!! I LOVE waisting time, I know when I have a family and shit, i won’t get the chance, but for now, I’m posting here!

He never changes his hairstyle. Some of these pics were taken maybe years apart I would guess, from the labour required to make them and the curve apparent in his development as an artist. They were not all taken on the same day as his clothes do change as do the locations and I would be surprised if all of these pieces were still intact or in one place at the same time. So: def; he’s kept that hair for years. That’s the primary artistic point he’s making, right?

TO ALL THE HATERS: The reason why hes in most the pictures is to show the scale/size of the artwork. If he wasn’t in them you would not be able to tell how large the artworks are in actuality.

and my fav is the flag raising at Iwo Jima

that was a very important day in history and there i a reason that it usually stands alone
    again, no offence

For those of you bashing him with too much time on his hands? As an artist I can tell you that you get better, and it gets easier, thus the pictures, sculptures etc do not take weeks and weeks to create. ;) I’m sure he managed to create some of these in a mere few hours.

These creations are all very nice work. But, ART?

The dictionary states this about art: –noun
    1. the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.

This to me is not Art. These items are very well made. They are certainly unique and his creations. Think about this. Lego can sell the parts with instructions and almost anyone with the time can reproduce it.

When a person tiles his bathroom, is this art? It might be the greatest tile job ever done. He may have custom cut and fit each single piece and inlaid different materials together to build a beautiful one of a kind design.

But it’s not art. It’s just tile and this is just Lego’s. Carve these sculpture from a single plastic block, It’s art. Assembling toys from 1000s of blocks meant to be connected? He just tiled a floor if you ask me.

It is nice work and I will thumbs up the page just because he obviously has put a lot of work into his designs.

Your work is amazing! I don’t see how someone cannot see art in this type of work. Even if you “tile your bathroom” in a way that expresses your thoughts and feelings, etc. it’s art. Art is not the “by default” master pieces of Renoir or the opuses of Giuseppe Verdi. Art does not have a definition, is that complex. Defining art is similar to describing the color blue. Go ahead, try!

Also, if a lot of people concider it to be art it is. Just because you don’t like it or think it’s pointless doesn’t mean it’s not art. If this were true, nothing would be concidered art. I think “d” and others like him/her are jelous of a. his talent b. his time to do this and/ or c. his money because this would be an expensive hobby/ job
By the way, I thought nothing of his being in the pictures, but now that I think about it, I agree with those who say they like it because they can see how big they are.

to you, Nathan, i hope u still check this site to see what people think and if you dont thats ok because that means your not vain.

but to the meat of the matter:

i will not tell you that your creations are amazing, exelent or awsome, I feel that has already been covered.

i will tell you that they did take time, i too have tried to build such things(with limited sucess). i can tell you it is time consuming and hard to conseptualize what your building. i can tell you his fingers hurt and have a lot of scars and calises(pardon my spelling).

i just have one question for him and i hope he answers it: what do you use to keep them together? mine always fall apart unless i add more legos and then it’s not what i invisioned and super glue doesnt work. what do you use?

I’m tired of this. The dictionary states this about art: –noun
    1. the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance. This is art because it is pleasing to the eyes, and DOES have more significance then a pile of legoes. This is no different than sculpting; which has always been adults “playing with rocks or clay” by this D’s definition, The David is a rock that needs to be swept from the museum, The ancient murals are just graffiti, the ceiling of the 16th chapel is just a cool paint job. What about tapestries? over done sheets or curtains? What is art then?
