Why must they always touch each other?

    NO TOUCHING ALLOWED!

I think the first picture contains the least similar subjects. I wonder if people that look alike feel a special type of kinship for eachother. They sure look caring touching eachother, I wonder if’s natural or if it’s at the request of the artist (photographer).

It’s difficult to photograph two people with their faces close together without having them touch in some way.

    Chris –

The look-alikes are from North America or Europe, but not one of each per pair. Most of the look-alikes are from the same place, it just means he went both to North America and Europe to find subjects.

is it just me, or…. uh…
aw hell, I’ll just say it:
None of these people look anything alike. They’re just wearing the same clothes!
    It’s all a big hoax!
    They’re lying to you!
Use your eyes and see the Truth that is right in front of you!
These people don’t look like each other!

    oh, and also:

Why doesnt anyone look at the artistic point of view…ok so they dont all look alike but they could easily pass as family.

yea I agree with Brian on this one..they dont exactly look like identical twins but they do look like siblings or in one picture a dad and son. And I have seen identical twins before. I KNOW them nad I still cant figure out who is who without looking at the numbers on their softball jerseys. When they are playing softball. Otherwise I cant tell at all who is who.

Fascinating. The big unanswered question is how these two individuals found one another. If one lives in North America and the other lives in Europe, the chances of their meeting up are very tiny indeed. Not all, but most of these individuals bear uncanny resemblances to each other not necessarily physically (height and weight are variables here) — but in demeanor and energy.

Since the couples had no requirements concerning what clothing they wore to the shoot, I wonder if they spoke to each other in advance, or just arrived similarly dressed. The photographer insists he does did nothing to stylize either hair or clothing.

    Very, very cool.

The thing I noticed was that each couple has one major facial feature that is almost identical. In most of them, it’s the eyes. Some, it’s the mouth or nose. Then there are a few that only have similar facial expressions (if they were not both making that face, they would look nothing alike).

In my lifetime, I have met people at different times, from different places who didn’t know each other at all; yet they looked almost exactly alike. So it is definitely possible that everyone has a “twin” out there somewhere. I’m pretty damn sure that I have an evil twin out there (or am I the evil one???)

Well I know for a fact that several times in my life, people told me they had seen me somewhere, and I was positively not there. I have even seen a Picture of “me” in a magazine, somewhere on a market in France where I had never been. So, yes, look alikes do exist of cours. Besides : they use a lot of look alikes in publicity (royalties, etc…) So there is nothing really new to it.
The fact that these people differ is quite normal too : different ages, different lifestyles, etc… it all leaves it’s mark on how you look in the end…

Some are being way too critical – it’s called “Look-a-likes” not “Look-Exactly -a-likes”. A-like means similar and these people do have similar features. Of course they’re not going to be identical, but I think it’s very artistic and very interesting.

I think these photos are beautiful; the second and fourth pictures, given the right treatment, could look almost gothic in the rendering of the subjects’ faces.

The person who wrote “look a likes…not look-exactly-a-likes” is right – the subjects appear to be selected because of a measure of similarity. I would like to think we can appreciate the beauty of the rendering and amazing fact that there are people in this world that are not related by blood but who can look the same. In that vein, I think its a testament that we’re not as different as we would like to think.

Although I would be a bit shocked to meet someone that I resemble.

I have found that total strangers will sometimes be similarity twins at a certain point in their lives. However, if you take the same pair of people and add or subtract ten years, then they look nothing alike. So you still can’t beat the genetic match of an identical twin.

My compliments to the photographer for delightful and creative portraits of these look-alikes!

First two didn’t even seem to match expressions. Then there’s the third, where the guy on the left looks like Paul McCartney and the one on the right looks like Charles Manson. The guy and girl at least have the same chin, that big ol’ Texas jut-jaw that Jennifer Aniston also has.

I’ve seen someone in a supermarket who looked a lot like me, but we both just tried to ignore each other…we must have had self-loathing in common.

This is pretty neat. I was at a church fundraiser when some guy walks up to me and says “Good job at the tryouts. You did really well.” I didn’t have a clue what he was talking about. Awesome website! Several of the pairs are certainly not identical, but there is strong resemblance in all cases.

I agree the U.S. is full of homophobes, and it is sad; in addition to causing a lot of trouble and heartache for innocent people who harm no one, homophobes miss out on many of life’s pleasures– giving a brother or friend a hug, for example. They are too scared to do that.

Hi, i liked this pics a lot! i ve been seing them and reading all the comments above, and i want to say that i also thought some of those couples are gay couples, i am gay myself, and id like to tell you that it is very common that gay pople look a lot alike their couples, i do not know if it is an ego thing or what…

i also have seen that straight people do the same…

so i think it is pretty common.. anyway i thought that the idea of photographing them is very cool.

I found the pictures interesting, and I agree with the look alike quality. More interesting though is the conversation.

I will admit that I found many of the posed couples to be posed in positions that seemed suggestive of an intimacy, and in some instances it was pretty hot, though with the obvious exception of the chin couple. Part of the problem here in the US is that so few of us are willing to admit that we see this and end up hiding behind a false machismo. Boys don’t cry and they ain’t no sissies either.

It’s just assumed that if a guy looks at you for too long he might also want to do things to your nethers, and for some reason, that really, really bothers some people here. Lesbians are cool as long as they’re hot and stop being lesbians when they leave college/university.

It’s not a great way to run a country, but there are those of us trying to steer the ship into modernity. Here’s hoping our religious zealots don’t end up thinking up the Inquisition all over again. That would seriously suck.

The German word for a double which you find in the world is “dopperganger (excuse the possible spelling errors) since I have been around so many humans that have “found” their doubles ( my twin siblings, and my own twins) , I find myself somewhat anxious and wondering if I am lucky enough to find my own dopperganger someday.

Many times I have heard that “the eyes are windows to the soul.” These people aren’t EXACTLY alike, but in many cases, the eyes and eye structure work together. I taught for many years, and after teaching a whole family of kids, one begins to see similarities. Especially in the eye structure. Frankly, to be able to do what this artist has done takes a great love of humankind. What a great gift this man has given us. Please conrinue!

I think the whole concept of this is not only fun but intriguing.
I have been told more than half a dozen times in my lifetime by STRANGERS that I was a dead wringer for someone they knew.Once it was a salesman in a furniture store. He said that other than the fact I was 6′ tall and his wife was shorter…..I could have been HER twin! (He even requested that my boyfriend-at-the-time and I hang out til his lunch break as she would be coming in) My boyfiend did not find this as interesting as we did and we did NOT hang out! Another time I was told by a friend of a friend that I looked like his sister.
Whether these people are “clone-worthy” is not even an issue. This is good clean fun!
I was blonde for 42 years….and this month I became a red head…wonder if any of MY “twins” made the same switch!?

These pictures were interesting. They evoked in me a feeling of wonder and humility. Yes we all looked at every minute detail with the sole purpose of shouting “Aha! They do NOT resemble!”. But whoa there buddy boy! There is that fact that in the country you reside or not, someone is walking around, going about their daily lives, who could be mistaken by a man on a galloping horse, to be You!

Hi – I was told about a “look-alike” in my own town, and this even caused sometimes bad situations ( “I met you last sunday, why did you ignore me ..?”,”What were you doing (there…) last week..,” etc…
The most curious thing is that this happened at all periods of my life whenaver my look changed (long or short hair, bearded or not…). Up to now, I identified two of those “look-alikes”… One of thme is… one of my cousins… the other one was working in a hospital where I made a stage… before we ever met, many patients told each of us as much alike we were… Now that I’m getting older, I was quite surprised on a canadian web cam-chat to hear that I looked like the actor Don Sutherlend… went on Google to check this, and found a awesome pic… even my daughter think “he” is “me” now I’ve put this pic on my messenger profile ..! only notice “how smart I look with my new hairstyle and glasses…”…

So if everybody in these photos puts on the same clothing and styles their hair the same, they will all look alike? You’re right….I see it now. What a great tip for fraternal twins who really want to be paternal twins. Just dress alike and have the same hairstyle. Voila! You’re now paternal!

I don’t think they are all doubles, they simply resemble each other. In fact a lot of them look as if they could be brother and sister. They are nice pictures, but doubles they are not, in most of them.

However, if dressed similarly…like they are in the pictures…a few of them could be mistaken for each other if one did not know them well. Or even if one did know them well, they could be mistaken at a glance…until they talked to them.

I saw my double in high school while attending a weekend class in advanced biology at the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History. Yeah, we were both pretty-boy nerds. He was from a known rich school and I wasn’t. It was very disturbing for both of us!

We were attending to the lecture when there was a distracting bustle in our general area of the auditorium. His friends were pointing me out to him and everyone around was looking and pointing at us both. When he finally turned around we both froze. It was a twilight zone moment, me looking at me a few rows over and seven rows down.

When the lecture was over we met, determined no connections and hurried away from one another. We were both disturbed and embarrassed in a way. We both instantly resented the fact that our faces were interchangeable and our individuality was gone forever.

Now I whenever I think of that day I think of the mummy in the hallway. I still avoid that guy’s face!

I’m in Michigan and I met a double in 93, he was from New Jersey. We had a friend in Long Island we’d both sent pictures to, and she told us we looked alike. We drove the same model car, same color, he was a year older. I was more muscular, but other than that, we were like twins. We met in person in Chicago in 93. My sister saw a picture of him when a group of us from Prodigy were there in Chicago to meet and she asked when did I have plastic frame glasses, I have always had wire frame. She was amazed it was my twin from Jersey. Tonight another on-line friend posted a link to a site and a guy that looks like me. He’s right, just the guy has more hair that I do.

Not all these people shown here knew each other. Some are from different countries, so not. I saw a story about this explaining it all. Some people refuse to pose since it creeps them out that somebody looks like them, others just don’t see it.

only question i ask, do all of them and their mothers knew their fathers well enough? :-)

on a serious note, it is a nice Art Work, there is more depth to these pictures then the similarities of the characters, the expressions, the baground, the smiles all add to a uniqueness of each picture, someone has in fact asked in comments above as to why shoould all the characters touch eachother, i think that it is exactly what the pictures portray, a similarity in all of us on matter where one is there is something that sounds or looks or feels similar.

    Hi all -
found these photos while looking for a name of a syndrome I’m sure I have: so many people look alike to me, that I have trouble recognizing them as individuals. To me, there does not seem to be so many different people – at least, not as many as I KNOW there are – because so many of them look alike. I think of them as belonging to certain groups.
Splitting the couples up, and viewing them, one by one, I would fail miserably at saying which was the person to the left, or to the right.
Anyone heard of this? I have, just can’t remember the name.

it is amazing how a similar bone structure or feature placement can make people look so much alike. i found this site because i was searching the web for info on twins and astrololy. this has always interested me. when “the anna nicole smith show’ first aired, i was astounded at how much my daughter looked like anna nicole–she could have been her twin. i then did a search on google for ‘celebrity look-alikes’ and found a few talent agencies that represent the look-alikes of famous people. it was fun to look at all the hits and misses. some of the resemblences were uncanny, some not so good. there is also a website where a program is able to compare your own photo to a database and it will tell you what celebrity you look like. although it is not close to being perfected, it did pick out certain feature resemblences fairly well. i tried it out and it said i resembled a famous asian personality (i am not asian) among others (sorry, i can’t recall the address of the site–but if i do, i will post it). there was a girl in my highschool that many people told me i looked exactly like, although i did not see any resemblence. i don’t suppose i would even realise if someone looked like me unless i saw side by side photos.
the photographer in this series is very talented-an artist!-i enjoyed these portraits and look forward to more. thanks!

First I would like to say that I personally know the photographer and I know his project as well.
For those who wondered why the models are always touching each other, it’s probably a concept of the artist, who wanted to show the proximity of two people who look-a-like even if they’ve never met before… imagine you meeting your double… maybe you wouldn’t be shy to be close to this person (who looks in some ways like you)? Also, someone already said it but it would actually be difficult to show similarities of two faces without having them touch in some way…
And most of the time, the photographer doesn’t tell the people how to dress and how to place their hair and that’s what makes the project so unique and surprising… the only thing the artist Francois Brunelle does is looking at his subjects to find what to enhance to make them “look-a-like” … I only wanted these points to be clear… because I felt that some people didn’t really took the time to appreciate all the work behind all these pictures!

For the past 3 years I have been mistaken for another guy living in the same small city as me. I’ve even had, on several occasions, people start conversations with me thinking I was him. They were totally stunned when I had to explain I wasn’t, and in one case the person knew him well. The last person to mistake me for him told me his name and where he works. The big question is, do I see for myself? Curiosity says yes I suppose, but not 100% if I should.

The remarks of some of the posters surprised me. To me, it looks as though these people ‘resemble’ one another, as if family, and were posed, dressed, and where necessary, fitted with the same hairstyle, glasses, whatever necessary, to make them resemble each other more so.

Come on you guys! I’ve met people, that if we had dressed alike, wore the same makeup/hairstyle and were posed correctly, we would have ‘passed’. And this ‘gay’ thing is just stupid. The ‘touching’ is to get the subject close enough so we can see the (dis)similarities. But yeah, whatever the number pic it is, you know the one I mean, well, one poor guy hit the skids, and his ‘cousin’ is doing just fine. But the two ’soccer cuties’…well, I think they probably went for drinks afterwards. Hey! I’m only human and that’s my opinion! lol

    This is great!

I have started a social network with face recognition technology launching in July 2007. It is called ilooklikeyou.com and is being used to find your look-a-like in the world and to help put them together in a network where their connections are based on the face. It will be interesting to see wher this goes.

All of these pairs look more alike than my twin and I do. Unbeknownst to us, we had a mutual friend in a city we lived in many years ago. He came to my apartment one day when my sister was there and when he came through the door and saw her, he said, “Hey, I didn’t know you girls knew eachother!”

I think for random people they look very alike as many people know that the closes to lookalikes you can get are identical twins and even they are not always the same in looks. this shows that this is a good way of showing that no one people is the same as another and it is hard to have anyform of lookalike.

I Think the similarities of the subjects is quite remarkable- although I always have my doubts when I see things like this posted on the web. Who is to know if these pictures have been photoshopped or altered in any way to make the subjects look even more alike than they really are? I have been amazed at some of the things photographers can do when they start altering digital images so I am always skeptical.

As a photographer myself, I think this is a fascinating project, and very well executed. I also really like that the subjects are all in physical contact with each other – not only does it obviously allow their features to be in closer proximity for comparison, but it creates a sense of intimacy that’s really interesting. Well done!

(And to the commenters whining about how men engaging in physical contact with each other is OMG TEH GAY – well, I’m very sorry your daddies never hugged you when you were growing up, but please don’t project your ridiculous fear of boy-cooties onto the rest of the world.)

Okay, obviously few of you know how to look at ART, which is what this photographers work is, and it is an excellent work. Also, do you think you just “landed where you are?” I am an American, however, I know my heritage, and my family went to Canada from France in the 1700’s. Wow, when you think about heritage it makes it not that impossible at all that we have a “twin” out there somewhere…or several. As for the gay ignorance displayed in the comments on this page (for the record I am hetrosexual) it amazes me in the 21st Century mankind has not learned from it’s mistakes.

I think they look too much alike.
what I always find interesting is how 2 people can look totally different (haircolor for example) but still have the same features or way about them.

I like the one with the guy in the suite and the guy in the leather jacket in particular for some reason

    well done

If you read the other articles that are not titled “look alikes” you will find out that the artist is looking for “Resemblance”. he has found that in abundance.

I like that he didnt try to match everyones facial hair, hair styles, ages or even weights. These people resemble each other… and its cool…

Know what I like about this whole site? This is ART. ART is supposed to make people think and talk. This is exactly what I see. And interpretation, as well. Look-Alike just means 2 apples from different trees LOOK ALIKE.
No one sais they looked like twins. Just ART.
I imagine disection is part of ART!

All you folks who decided you were morally superior enough to publicly instruct others in how they should behave on a message board were the most boring of all commenters here. Who elected you god and informed you that you were the pinnacle of Western civilization, evolutionarily developed beyond your fellow humans and therefore qualified to look down upon them and sniff, in your superior way, “little worm of a human, have faith. Someday, you can be like me.”

Get over yourselves and just accept that each and every comment is the reaction of the individual to the particular situation and means something only within the context taken as a whole. Your jumping in and flashing your moral superiority is no better than what it is you think you are decrying.

    Again, get over yourselves.

Wow…”This is just the doppleganger theory?” That’s like saying, “This is just the theory of evolution,” or “just the theory of the transmigration of souls.” People are funny. Anyway, on the planet where I live these pairs mostly all look remarkably alike; while not like identical twins (except #s 2, 7, 9 & 11 who could be) they all look like relatives. And one on the right does look like Jared Leto, but her nipples aren’t as prominently displayed as his usually are. And regarding the touching, I think to squeeze two people together that tightly for a picture, anyone who was avoiding touching would seem pretty overtly homophobic. Great art project.

People need to look at this pictures from a very sensitive point of view to understand the artist purpose. As it is with any other artistic expression, the invisible link of objects in a piece of art have a reason to be, in this case are non related couples with extraordinary similitudes. It’s completely point less to wonder why their bodies touch, just admire the fact that the human body is amazing.
