The star-nose mole

Interesting video of an unusual mole with weird pinky star-nose.

The star is an extraordinary touch organ with more than 25,000 minute sensory receptors, called Eimer’s organs, with which this hamster-sized mole feels its way around.

The star-nose dmole is capable of eating his prey faster than any other predator on earth. He can identify and eat a worm in about 320 milliseconds, half the time a human can recognize a red traffic light.

Winner of Palme d’Or for the Best Short Film and Technical Grand Prize in 1965, nominated for Academy Award for Best Short Documentary the film “Overture” clearly was ahead of its time. The scientific documentary shows an amazing view of an egg in a way you have never seen it before! Dont’t forget, it was shot back in 1965!

Beautiful piece in the European short film series by János Vadász. Music by Beethoven.
